Tiger Solar and GiveSolar partner to provide clean energy for habitat homeowner

Staunton, VA – Thursday, June 23 – Tiger Solar, Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity (RAHfH), and GiveSolar partnered together to provide an existing Habitat home with a new solar system in Lexington, VA. In 2021, GiveSolar raised funds to help Habitat affiliates in Virginia launch solar programs. On Friday, June 17th, GiveSolar and RAHfH turned to Tiger Solar to install 14 solar panels on Habitat homeowner, Gina Jones’ roof.

Jones’ home was chosen based on sun exposure, the position of the home, past electricity bills, and the homeowner’s willingness and excitement to partner with the organizations. With the project now installed, Jones and RAHfH will monitor the monthly energy usage and bills to determine the efficacy of the solar system and to provide guidance for possible future installations.

“Ever since I moved up here, I’ve been lucky. I always wanted to own a home with solar panels, and now I will,” exclaimed Jones.

“I think this is a wonderful first step for our local Habitat affiliate. It offers a perfect model for future solar opportunities,” said Carroll Comstock, Rockbridge Area Habitat volunteer. “Jeff Heie and GiveSolar’s guidance and persistence helped us to get on track, and despite all the untimely distractions, our staff pulled it off.”

“The opportunity for us to work on the Give Solar project was a real joy. The commitment that the volunteers from Habitat for Humanity have for their community is contagious and we were glad to be able to help Ms. Jones reduce her electric bills,” said Tiger Solar’s Staunton Branch Manager, Joe Moore.

For over 30 years, Rockbridge Area Habitat for Humanity has built homes alongside families who will then pay an affordable mortgage. This successful pilot project and collaboration highlights the endless possibilities to help more homeowners in Central Virginia turn to clean energy.
