How REAP Grants and Federal Tax Credits Provide Rural Small Business and the Farming Industry Deals on Going Solar

Are you a rural business owner who wants to cut down your power bill? Are you a farmer looking to pass down your farm and set the next generation of farmers up for success? Are you looking for tax benefits and grants? If so, the USDA has a grant to consider.

The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) is a USDA grant program that promotes renewable energy systems and energy efficiency improvement through guaranteed loans and grants.

The Tiger Solar team is focused on making the REAP grant easy to understand for our local rural business and agriculture customers. Solar power is a very appealing investment for industry and agriculture, not just for residential homes.

Here are some facts you should know about the USDA REAP grant as a rural small business owner or if you are in the agricultural industry:

  1. Combining a USDA REAP grant with the 30% Federal Tax Credit your small business or local farm could save up to 70% off the total project cost of installing a solar energy system on your buildings or on your property.
  2. Agricultural producers interested in solar power may apply for the USDA REAP grant if at least 50% of their gross income comes from agricultural operations.
  3. Small businesses interested in solar power may apply if they’re located in eligible rural areas.
  4. You must be a for-profit business to apply.
  5. Renewable energy grant minimum from the USDA is $2,500, the maximum is $1,000,000.

But grant applications and tax credits can be confusing. You’ve probably asked yourself, “How do I start my USDA REAP grant application?” Adding the complexity of solar into the mix means many small rural business owners don’t have time to tackle the process.

That’s where Tiger Solar comes in. How do we help?

  • We tackle the solar grant paperwork and red tape for you.
  • We can help determine your eligibility.
  • We identify the right solar power solution for your business.
  • We help you through the USDA REAP grant application process.

Our team has successfully secured USDA REAP grants for our rural solar clients. Once the grant is secured, we help with solar power installation and ongoing solar panel and system servicing and maintenance.

Here are some common questions we get that we’d love to answer for our local rural small business and agriculture clients.

  • What if I work from my home?
  • What if we are a non-profit?
  • What type of industrial roof will support solar?
  • How is an industrial solar power system different from a residential solar power system?
  • How can I write a successful USDA REAP grant application?
  • What type of businesses qualify?

Here are some of the local businesses we have helped install solar panels through the USDA REAP process:
