We sat down with Sales Associate, Peter Litsas, at our Charlottesville branch to discuss how Scanifly has changed the solar industry and created reliable and accurate information for our customers.
Q: What is Scanifly used for?
A: We use Scanifly to get accurate measurements of clients’ properties by using images and GPS data to create a 3D model of the customer’s structure. Before Scanifly, we would spend an hour or more up on the roof with a tape measure and a pad and paper, draw out the roof by hand, and physically measure potential roof obstructions and dimensions. With Scanifly, we fly the drone and stay safely on the ground, resulting in increased efficiency and safety. What used to take an hour or more, now takes approximately 15 minutes.
Q: What does the training to use the program involve?
A: There are a few different aspects to the training involved for using Scanifly. The element for training involves the FAA Part 107 certification. This is the license that allows you to legally pilot a drone for commercial applications. The next step involves learning how to operate the drone in tight spaces. The last item to become familiar with is learning how to navigate the software and upload the final images.
Q: How does Scanifly benefit the customer?
A: With Scanifly, we’re now able to do the following:
Form a relationship with the customer prior to the sale
Use a 3D model to provide customers with accurate images of what to expect with their install
Increase accuracy
Decrease likelihood of change orders later on
Q: How has the solar industry evolved with the introduction of Scanifly?
A: For the solar industry, it has made the sales and predesign portion of solar safer, more accurate, and more efficient. Improving efficiency lowers the bottom line and helps keep costs down for customers. More specifically, it means less change orders, more accurate production guarantees, and ultimately happier customers.
