Waynesboro, VA – May 25, 2021 – Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Waynesboro recently installed solar panels on their building, identifying a sustainable way to power its fellowship hall.
Installed by national solar company, Altenergy Inc., with a home office in Staunton, Va., the solar energy system consists of (34) solar modules and will offset 100% of UUFW’s traditional electrical usage, producing 14,642kWh annually.
The system reduces UUFW’s annual operational costs while also aligning with one of their core beliefs to take care of the environment and support the community where they serve. UUFW’s board member, Wayne Nolde, says the church is expecting to save around $1,500 a year.
“The savings in reduced electric bills over the life of the system is projected to be about twice the cost of the system, which frees up our funds for other needs,” says Nolde.
The 14kW solar project took just days to install, but several years to become a reality. The local church reached their fundraising goal this year after an anonymous donor gifted the money to launch the project. UUFW worked with Altenergy’s local team from conception to completion, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing design and straightforward installation, with the potential to add more panels in the future to a second building.
“I’d like to thank Wayne and UUFW for their thoughtfulness and commitment to sustainability in their community,” says Joe More, Altenergy’s branch manager in Staunton, Va. “Altenergy prides itself in high quality design and exceptional installation. We worked in lockstep with UUFW throughout the process and we’re thrilled to see the reduction in UUFW’s environmental footprint and energy costs,” adds Moore.
